Danica Patrick Files for Divorce From Husband Paul Hospenthal

Publish date: 2024-05-23

Danica Patrick and Paul Hospenthal have come to the end of their road together. Less than two months after announcing that she and her husband had separated, the NASCAR driver, 30, officially filed for divorce, according to documents obtained by Sporting News.

"My marriage is irretrievably broken and there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation," the IndyCar racer stated in her filing on Jan. 3. She also noted in the documents that the couple have a prenup and that neither side would require alimony. They plan to present a settlement agreement to the court at a later date.

Patrick — who was voted the NASCAR Nationwide Series' Most Popular Driver in 2012 — reportedly met Hospenthal, 47, when she visited his physical therapy office seeking treatment for a hip injury. He proposed on Thanksgiving Day in 2004, and they married one year later in Arizona.

On Nov. 20, 2012, one day after the couple's seventh wedding anniversary, Patrick announced that they had gone their separate ways. "I am sad to inform my fans that after 7 years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage," she wrote in a post on her official Facebook page.

"This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this," she continued. "He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."
