Eminem Reunites With Mother Debbie Mathers for Headlights Music Video

Publish date: 2024-05-16

Reuniting! Eminem reconnected with his estranged mother Debbie Mathers in the new music video to his single Headlights.

Although the rapper, 41, has trashed his mom in his songs in the past and has been outspoken about their conflicts, he used Headlights to apologize to Mathers and recognize his role in their issues.

Eminem debuted the visuals to Headlights on Sunday, May 11, in recognition of Mother’s Day. The project was directed by Spike Lee and enlisted Fun frontman Nate Ruess to record the song’s melody.

“Never thinking about who what I said hurt, in what verse / My mom probably got it the worst / The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are / Did I take it too far?” Slim Shady spits in the track. “‘Cleaning Out My Closet’ and all them other songs / But regardless I don’t hate you ’cause, Ma, / You’re still beautiful to me, ’cause you’re my mom.”

The music video to Headlights is told from the viewpoint of Mama Mathers as she is kept away from an adult Eminem, reminisces about his childhood, uses drugs and alcohol, and attempts to reconnect with her son.

At the end of the clip, Eminem is shown hugging his mom before the two go their separate ways.
