Gigi Hadid Wore This Dress to High School Prom
Everything old can be new again! You may think that as a rising teen model, Gigi Hadid would have worn a stunning designer dress to her senior prom, or even skipped the fete altogether. But the Tommy Hilfiger brand ambassador revealed that not only did she attend her high school prom all four years, she never bought a new dress for any of them.
"I wore my mom’s stuff to prom," Gigi, 21, whose mom is former model Yolanda Hadid, told W magazine. "My senior year, I wore a red Herve Leger dress. Not the normal bandage, it was the one where they had the short sleeves and a beautiful braided neckline and stuff. I loved it. It was red, bright red and short. In Malibu, we wear short dresses to prom because we live at the beach. The long dress thing gets a little in your way in the sand and stuff."
And her mom didn't just lend Gigi her threads — she gifted her a couple of pieces, too. "I never owned anything designer until I started working, [but] my mom had a beautiful closet and I kind of would play dress up," Gigi shared. "She gave me an old vintage Prada bag for my 18th birthday, and that was the first designer thing I’d ever owned."

Of course, the Vogue favorite can more than afford her own designer threads these days (she raked in $9 million in 2016, according to Forbes), but she still goes to her mama for at least one thing: the best advice. "I think my favorite thing that she says is, 'When you start working, you better be the most hardworking, nicest person in the room, because if you're not, then there's always going to be someone prettier, nicer, and more hardworking,'" Gigi told the mag. "And that's just something that I always think about when I get to set."
