Jennifer Lawrence's Butt Scratching Story Sparks Backlash

Publish date: 2024-05-18

Jennifer Lawrence has come under fire on social media after she joked about scratching her butt on rocks that were considered to be sacred in Hawaii.

The always-candid star appeared on The Graham Norton Show with her Passengers costar Chris Pratt last week, where she laughed as she recounted how she almost killed a crew member by scratching her rear end on some boulders — which are considered sacred by locals — while filming in Hawaii.

“You were not supposed to sit on them because you weren’t supposed to expose your genitalia to them,” the 26-year-old explained, adding that because she was wearing a wetsuit she was allowed to perch on the giant rocks.

“Oh, my God, they were so good for butt itching” the Kentucky native joked. “One rock that I was butt scratching on ended up coming loose, and it was a giant boulder and it rolled down this giant mountain and almost killed our sound guy,” she said. “His whole station got destroyed. It was this huge, dramatic deal.”

“All the Hawaiians were like, ‘Oh my God, it’s the curse!’ And I was sitting in the corner like, ‘Haha! I’m your curse! I wedged it loose with my a–!’”

While her story got laughs from the audience, it didn’t go down so well with viewers at home, who were quick to slam the Oscar-winner as culturally insensitive on social media and demand an apology.

“It doesn’t get more white and evil,” wrote one Twitter user of J.Law, while another mocked: “what quirky racist adventure will Jennifer Lawrence go on next?”

Another user shared an article about her story and wrote: “Please get everyone to rt this to get Jennifer Lawrence to apologize to the Hawaiian people. This is NOT okay.”

Why would you knowingly disrespect someone's culture and sacred artifacts and brag about it later? Smh Jennifer Lawrence is beyond cancelled
