Melissa Gilbert Suffers Head Injury During Dancing With the Stars

Melissa Gilbert gave it her all on Dancing With the Stars Monday — so much so that she was taken to the hospital mid-show.

The Little House on the Prairie actress, 47, earned 22/30 points for her paso doble with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, 32, but it was her head injury that had audience members buzzing. (Judge Bruno Tonioli called it Gilbert's "best performance by far.")

"If you're wondering why Melissa and Maks are not here, she injured herself and as a precaution, has gone to the hospital to get it checked out," host Tom Bergeron, 56, said. He promised to provide a full update on Tuesday's results show.

Gilbert's celebrity competitors, including Sherri Shepherd and Gavin DeGraw, gave Us Weekly more insight into the actress' injuries post-show.

"She hit her head during her dance, and then after she felt a little dizzy so they took her to the hospital just to get checked out and make sure she was okay," Shepherd, 44, explained. "I think she'll be all right, though."

DeGraw, 35, "carried her down to the red room" because Gilbert "was too weak to walk," Karina Smirnoff, 34, told Us. "After that, the show kept going and we had to dance."

DeGraw added: "My arms were tired by the time I started the dance after carrying her!"

Gilbert later took to Twitter to explain what was happening, writing: "I'm all right. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of."
