'RHOP' Recap: Karen Confronts Ashley Over Daughter Rumor

Publish date: 2024-05-26

The Real Housewives of Potomac are back for another week of champagne side-eyes, temper tantrums, breakups, make-ups and … makeup. And yes, a fight involving a hand gesture was all part of the fun, naturally.

Gizelle’s Makeup Line: “Just Buy It”

The Bravo series’ Sunday, March 20, episode started off with Gizelle Bryant discussing her upcoming makeup line for women of color. After her business associate nixed the idea for the name “Caramel Cuties,” Gizelle suggested they call the line, “Just Buy It.” Pretty catchy.

In the meeting, Gizelle talked about using her fellow Housewives as a focus group for her makeup line, saying, “It’s kind of a risky move to establish a focus group with this group of girls, but their opinion matters.” In the very next scene, Katie Rost told the camera, “Gizelle sucks up all the air in the room. I’m not gonna go to her makeup focus group thing.” All right, then!

At the focus group, Ashley Darby reconnected with the group for the first time since the disastrous ending of their Bethany Beach, Delaware, trip. Gizelle greeted her with, “It wasn’t that your husband was there; it was how you handled it with the girls — you disrespected Karen [Huger], which she’s still mad about. But I’d like to move forward in life.”

When Karen showed up, she wasn’t as quick to move forward in life and actually suggested that their husbands, Michael Darby and Ray Huger, get together and sort the dispute out. Ashley felt like having the husbands duke it out on their behalf was a tad outdated and said, “What are they gonna do, have a duel?!”

Husbands Are Dueling on Behalf of Their Wives … in 2016

At the dueling ground, aka golf course, a cheery Ashley and Michael met up with Karen and Ray to finally put to rest the fight over Michael crashing Ashley’s girls trip. Ray kicked off the conversation by saying, “The problem was when my wife goes to a girls’ weekend, I don’t expect guys to show up unexpectedly and make her uncomfortable. He continued, “I assume they’re walking around in skimpy outfits with their girls.” Not creepy at all!

The men came to an understanding over some putting and were laughing and shaking hands by the end of it, as their wives watched. So … great! Karen and Ashley are friends again, all thanks to their husbands! Yikes.

Ashley and Karen: Will-They-Won’t-They (Stay Friends, That Is)

There’s nothing like a good, old-fashioned gala to tarnish a newly re-minted friendship! At Karen’s fundraising gala for Alzheimer’s research, Ashley started talking to Robyn Dixon and Gizelle about Karen’s 19-year-old daughter, Raven.

Ashley mentioned that Karen had said she didn’t want the women seeing her daughter. A confused Robyn confronted Karen about this, saying, “Ashley said you don’t want us around your daughter?” Whoa. Karen instantly flipped, turned to Ashley and said pointedly, “Ashley, what are you drinking? First off, this is my event, and I said no such thing. I said I don’t want Raven hanging out with you specifically. I’ll tell you how I’m going to button this up …”

The Queen Bee of Class proceeded to hold up two fingers in the classic middle-finger pose … maybe channeling a British-style profane gesture? She wrapped up the confrontation by saying, “Good night. I’m done with you.” Ashley and Michael promptly left. Looks like the Rachel and Ross of reality-TV friendships are “off” again.

Tell Us: Should Ashley keep trying to mend things with Karen after this blow-up?
