Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand Reunite 42 Years After The Way We Were: Pictures

Publish date: 2024-05-22

Reunited and it feels so good! Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand looked delighted to see each other at a Women in Entertainment breakfast in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Dec. 9 — 42 years after the pair first co-starred in the classic Hollywood love story The Way We Were.

The acting legends, who played lovers in the Oscar-winning 1973 film, looked as close as ever posing for photos at the event, which honored Streisand’s work empowering women in Hollywood.

Other Hollywood heavyweights — including Kris Jenner, Selma Blair, Lea Michele, Lena Dunham, and Tyra Banks — also attended the celebratory fete.

In The Way We Were, Redford, now 78, and Streisand, now 73, played two individuals from decidedly different worlds — he as Hubbell Gardiner, a carefree WASP with dashing good looks, and she as Katie Morosky, an opinionated activist.

The premise of the film involved both Hubbell and Katie losing touch and reconnecting over the course of their lifetimes, and is still hailed as one of the greatest love stories in American cinema.

The pals reconnected earlier this year in April, when Redford was honored with the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Chaplin Award.

“You never quite know what he’s really thinking, and that makes him fascinating to watch on screen,” Streisand said at the time as she presented him with the award. “Bob understands the power of restraint. You’re never going to get it all, and that’s the secret, I think. That’s the mystery. That’s what makes you want to keep looking at him.”
