Smokey Robinson Releasing Duets Album Featuring His Greatest Hits

Publish date: 2024-06-06

2013 is going to be Smokey Robinson‘s year. The 73-year-old music legend will release his 29th career LP, a special duets album, this fall, Us Weekly has learned. The “My Girl” singer has not released original material since 2009’s Time Flies When You’re Having Fun.

“I’m really excited about signing with Verve Music Group to release this upcoming album,” Robinson tells Us in a statement. “Not only do I have a musical history with the guys involved, but a longstanding friendship as well. I’m looking forward to bringing our talents to the table as we collaborate on this project.”

David Foster, Verve Music Group chairman and husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster, is thrilled to be teaming up with the “Tears of a Clown” singer. “From the early ’60s to this very day, you can turn on a radio anywhere in the world and hear his music,” the celebrated songwriter and producer says. “Smokey Robinson’s contributions to the world of music as a performer, producer and songwriter are nothing short of a ‘miracle.’ I’m so pleased to welcome Smokey to the Verve Music Group family. We’re looking forward to a great collaboration worthy of the legacy of this great label.”

The Detroit-born singer — known for his like “Cruisin’,” “Being With You” and “One Heartbeat” — was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Robinson most recently made a surprise appearance on the March 27 episode of American Idol, where he mentored the contestants during Motown week.
