SNL's Pete Davidson: Kid Cudi Saved Me From Killing Myself

Publish date: 2024-05-24

Pete Davidson credits Kid Cudi for saving his life. The Saturday Night Live star revealed in a new interview that he probably would have died by suicide as a teen if it weren’t for the rapper.

Davidson, 22, made the revelation on The Breakfast Club radio show on Tuesday, October 25. The comedian, who lost his father during the September 11, 2001, attacks in NYC, said that Cudi’s 2009 debut album helped him overcome his depression.

“Cudi’s the best of all. He saved my life. I would’ve killed myself if I didn’t have Kid Cudi,” Davidson said when asked to choose his favorite musicians. “I would’ve killed myself. Absolutely, 100 percent. I truly believe if Man on the Moon didn’t come out, I wouldn’t be here.”

Cudi, 32, is currently going through a tough time himself. Earlier this month, the How to Make It in America actor revealed that he checked into rehab following a battle with “depression and suicidal urges.” He told fans via Facebook that he felt like he was “living a lie” and that it’s been difficult for him.

The Comedy Central star and Cudi have struck up a friendship over the years. In fact, Davidson plans to visit him soon.

“It’s kind of comforting to know your hero goes through the same stuff you do. I think that’s why a lot of kids my age can relate to Cudi and people love him so much is because he’s a very emotional dude,” Davidson said on Tuesday. “I texted with him last Monday, and he’s in really good spirits. I think I might go see him next week. But he’s in a good place.”
